Where it all began…
Founded in 2018 by Zoe Saffron and Pippa Skinner (who were support workers and tutors for many years), realised that it was exceptionally difficult for adults with learning disabilities to progress and develop within their communities. School-age education has come on in leaps and bounds but after the age of 19, the opportunities dwindle significantly.
They decided to create a progressive space where abilities could be nurtured, new skills could be taught, and learning-disabled adults could enjoy the well-being that comes with contributing to their own communities and enjoying being a part of it!
At Welly’s we strive for the acceptance and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities and hope that by working with the local area, providing produce, community events, and services; new relationships will soon blossom.
Who said that work and well-being are mutually exclusive? Not us!
So What Do We Do…
We develop and create, work-based sessions where the aim is to enrich and enable our workers with skills that can be used productively to benefit the community.
By providing opportunities and focusing on the individual’s abilities we then provide opportunities within the local area where these achievements can be experienced and shared.
We build partnerships with many local businesses and community groups to establish the purpose and structure for our work sessions. Our well-being sessions focus on physical activity, social skills, confidence building, teamwork, and expression to nurture their physical and emotional health. We plan on easing the transition that follows education within a supportive and diverse facility so that adults with learning disabilities can lead full, dynamic lives.

How We Help the Community…
We have hosted many successful open days, evening music and dining events and fundraisers at the Melton Mowbray Country Park Cafe since sharing the space with Melton Space.
We are also hosting Brooksby Melton College and their students on work placements at the café, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, providing valuable skills to those who require a gentle ease into a work place. County Councillor Mark Frisby, Access All Areas CIC, works alongside us and Melton Space with projects to support and develop in the community.
We work with MISPA for inclusive sports opportunities and Above and Beyond CIC to support activities for children who lack access to education.
We also work with Melton Lions and the community allotment in the Country Park. We support Melton Matters by Wombling in the area to keep the space clean and clear of rubbish. We also provide space for the collections of cans for the Air Ambulance Appeal, collect clothing for refugees and coats for the homeless.
